Madeit Patterns Hug Hoodie

I really love the vibe of Madeit patterns. It’s casual stuff you feel comfortable wearing but usually with a twist that makes it not boring.

Madeit is part-owned by a woman of colour (looks like two women own and run the company) and are on the Shut Up and Sew safe space to shop list. Read more about spending where it counts and the safe space to shop initiative from Jacinta Green (@PinkMimosabyJacinta) here.

I bought this a while back but just got around to making the hug hoodie.

The author is standing in a garden wearing a dusky pink hooded jumper with a curved cross over hem. She is wearing glasses, has her hair up and her hand on her hip. She is looking slightly away from the camera.

I made this out of bamboo and cotton stretch fleece and matching ribbing from Blackbird Fabrics in heather dusty rose colour. This fabric is sooo soft and snuggly – I love it. It’s not bulky but is nice and warm. They still have some at the time of writing…

I altered the pattern for additional length and also did an FBA. I have to say that was a massive pain in the bum. My one complaint for this pattern company is their size range – desperately needs expanding…However they do have teen sizes, which is great because my kids are that age / size right now and there’s not much about for them.

So very very painful…

I really like the look of this jumper and it was pretty quick and easy to make, after the world of adjustments.

The hood fits well. I think if I make this again I should work out how to adjust the bottom band a bit to be more of a dramatic curve. The FBA adjusting which adds more width has elongated that curve so it’s less of an obvious design feature.

It might also be a little long – I didn’t want it as short as designed, but it could be slightly shorter I think. Overall though, am very happy with it!

All the deets:

Pattern: Madeit Patterns Hug Hoodie

Size: 20, reduced a bit in the hips

Adjustments:

  • I graded from an adjusted 20 down a bit in the hips (no idea how much because just do this by eye after trying it on
  • I did a 1.25″ FBA, then matched the adjustment additional width in the bands and other curve piece
  • I also added more length – I think around 1.5″ inches

Fabric used: Bsamboo and cotton stretch fleece and matching ribbing from Blackbird Fabrics in heather dusty rose colour.

Like it?  Wearing it?  Yes and Yes!

Notes for next time:

  • Quick to make
  • Definitely making again – possibly with slightly less length or a sharper curve.
