Sewing Fail! Mimi-G Saldana Tee

Every now and again, you have a mental image of how you will look in something and it could not be further from the reality when you make it. As part of Mission TNTee, I recently made the Mimi G Saldana Tee.

I should be up front and say I don’t think this is in any way a pattern problem for a couple of reasons. There are lots of nice versions of this pattern out there, and in fact Curvy Sewing Collective did a same pattern, different bodies for it which resulted in some great versions.

I suspect I am the opposite shape than drafted for – bigger in the shoulders and chest than the hips, whereas I suspect this looks great on people who are bigger in the hips than the bust/shoulders.

Also full disclaimer – this isn’t even finished. I didn’t hem or (as you can see) press it. It would look better if I had done either or both, but I knew it wasn’t going to work for me and so am not going to spend the time.

My face says it all. It’s tent-y on me.

The swingy hem that looks ah-mazing on Mimi G and others (I love Meg’s version) looks pretty meh on me.

The back falls quite nicely…

All the deets:

Pattern: Mimi G / SewDefDef Saldana

Size: 2XL

Adjustments:

  • I can’t remember…sorry. Probably some length – as I usually would.

Fabric used: Jersey/spandex from Zenith and Quasar.

Like it?  Wearing it?  No and No. This one is a total fail for me.

Notes for next time:

  • Nil – I am not going to make this again. I don’t think it works for my body and am not sure adjusting further to try and make it work will give results.
